Augur Hackathon Feb 13 – Join Us!
Last week we announced our first virtual Augur Hackathon, happening on Saturday, February 13. We hope you can join us as we work through some issues together as a team! This is a great event for first-time contributors to open source, or for seasoned veterans. Of course this is a fun, free event, but we do ask you to register here: https://ti.to/augur/augur-hackathon/.
Metrics Open for Community Review
We are now in our open review window, where anyone in the CHAOSS community or general public can review and comment on the metrics we expect to release in March. We have 16 metrics currently listed as “under review” so feel free to take a look at any or all of them! Your feedback is crucial to the quality of our developed metrics and we highly value your opinion. You can see them all here: https://chaoss.community/metrics/.
This Week’s Volunteer Opportunity
D&I Badging Initiative Reviewer (More than one volunteer needed!)
- Description of what’s needed: CHAOSS D&I Badging aims to foster healthier practices of Diversity & Inclusion in technology-centered events. We are looking for reviewers who care about this kind of work and want to make a difference in the tech event space. As a reviewer, your job is not to assess the Diversity & Inclusion statistics of an event. Your task is to help event organizers develop better practices for measuring Diversity & Inclusion in their own event spaces. (Training and a clear set of guidelines and criteria for awarding badges will be provided to volunteers.)All applications (so far) have been for virtual events, but the program will support in-person events as they begin to happen again. All the information you need for the review should be publicly available, such as on the website.
You are encouraged to ask questions about the applicant event. Feel free to have a conversation with the applicant. We take the program’s impact seriously, but we hope the application can be a casual and enjoyable environment.
- Skills needed: The most important requirement for a reviewer is that you are committed to improving Diversity and Inclusion in the ways that you can. Otherwise, we require the applicant to understand basic GitHub functions, mostly regarding GitHub Issues.
It is strongly recommended that you are involved in some sort of open source contribution as well. (Training on the D&I Badging process will be given to volunteers). - Hours per week needed: Time commitment varies depending on your number of assigned reviews. Expect no more than an hour per week as a reviewer.
If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, reach out to Elizabeth (elizabeth@chaoss.community).
