We recently announced that the CHAOSS Community Survey was open! We highly encourage everyone in the CHAOSS community to take this survey and share their thoughts and experiences with participating in the CHAOSS community.

A core value of CHAOSS is centering diversity, equity, and inclusion in everything we do. In order to make our community more welcoming and inclusive and continue to center DEI, we have been working with our DEI Audit team to develop a community survey. With this survey, we hope to increase our understanding of community members’ experiences within CHAOSS, and surface areas for improving our policies and practices.

No Asia-Pacific Community Call This Week
The Asia-Pacific Community call is canceled this week because of the Chinese holiday. We will see you again on October 19!
Reminder: New Onboarding Meeting for Newcomers to CHAOSS Starting October 5
The CHAOSS community continues to grow! To make the onboarding process a little easier, Elizabeth Barron (CHAOSS Community Manager) and Ruth Ikegah (CHAOSS Africa Community Lead) will be hosting onboarding meetings the first Wednesday of every month at 11:00 am US Central/Chicago time, starting October 5. We know this time is not convenient for everyone, but this is just a start and we will add and iterate as we go.
This meeting will cover:
- General overview of CHAOSS
- How you can begin contributing
- How to get started with using the metrics
- Q&A
We hope you can join to meet other newcomers and learn about CHAOSS! You can convert to your time zone here.
No Official Metrics Release in October
Typically, CHAOSS officially releases metrics twice a year (April and October). Because our latest cycle was focused on reviewing and updating previously released metrics (especially our older ones!) there is no official release of new metrics this October. Any new metrics will be released as part of our continuous release cycle and will be part of the April 2023 release. We hope that clears up any confusion around the 2022-10 release.
CHAOSS Joins the TODO Associates Program, and Value Working Group is Pivoting to be OSPO Focused
As the community around open source health metrics evolves, so does CHAOSS! We’ve enjoyed increased engagement from the OSPO community, in both industry and academia and have seen this engagement through the Value Working Group as a point of entry. But the Value Working Group covers a broad range of lenses for defining “value” and as such, it was decided that this group could narrow its focus to better serve the needs of those working in OSPOs. As mentioned before, the Societal Value focus area has shifted to the DEI Working Group where it is being worked on.
This aligns with our new participation in the TODO Group’s Associate Program which aims to help OSPOs connect on best practices, community engagement, and a variety of OSPO related topics.
Because of this Working Group shift, you can expect to see a name change, a README change, and potentially a time and date change for the meetings, which we will announce as soon as the group has had a chance to finalize this new direction. Stay tuned! (By the way, if you would like to participate in this new Working Group, you can join the #wg-value Slack channel for now).
