Reminder: Please Share Feedback Through the CHAOSS Community Survey

Last week we announced that the CHAOSS Community Survey was open! We highly encourage everyone in the CHAOSS community to take this survey and share their thoughts and experiences with participating in the CHAOSS community.

From our blog post announcement:

A core value of CHAOSS is centering diversity, equity, and inclusion in everything we do. In order to make our community more welcoming and inclusive and continue to center DEI, we have been working with our DEI Audit team to develop a community survey. With this survey, we hope to increase our understanding of community members’ experiences within CHAOSS, and surface areas for improving our policies and practices.

Please feel free to read the full blog post for more details on the survey, and help us make our community more welcoming and inclusive for all!

You can find the survey here: https://chaossproject.limesurvey.net/835156?lang=en and it will be open until October 12.

CHAOSScast Episode #65: How Projects Secure their Code with Chris and Nir of Arnica

This episode features a super interesting chat with Chris Abraham, Head of Data Science, and Nir Valtman, Co-Founder and CEO of Arnica. Chris and Nir share their expertise in analyzing open source community repositories with our host Georg Link, and some surprising results of a recent security analysis they completed. They also talk about the security controls code owners can take advantage of, maintainer burnout, and their open source project, GitGoat. So many interesting topics in this episode! You won’t want to miss this one. You can listen here: https://podcast.chaoss.community/65.

New In-Person Event for OSPOs

We wanted to pass along an event that may be of interest to many in the CHAOSS community: OSPOlogy.live in Stockholm, Sweden, October 19-20, 2022.

From the site:

Join the first in-person Workshop to help organizations effectively implement Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs) based on specific region needs in Europe. October’s Ospology.live is hosted by OSPO at Ericsson and co-organized with TODO, OpenChain, SPDX, CHAOSS and OpenSSF projects.

Dawn Foster, Sean Goggins, and Daniel Izquierdo will be giving a talk on CHAOSS and how OSPOs can use Metrics Models to learn about their communities.

To register or learn more about the event, visit the OSPOlogy.live site.

Migrating from the Mailing List to Discourse

We have discussed the migration from a mailing list to a more newcomer-friendly forum for a while, and we are now ready to move this project forward. If you would like to take part in these discussions or in the migration process, please join us in the #forum-migration-planning channel on Slack.

New Onboarding Meeting for Newcomers to CHAOSS

The CHAOSS community continues to grow! To make the onboarding process a little easier, Elizabeth Barron (CHAOSS Community Manager) and Ruth Ikegah (CHAOSS Africa Community Lead) will be hosting onboarding meetings the first Wednesday of every month at 11:00 am US Central/Chicago time, starting October 5. We know this time is not convenient for everyone, but this is just a start and we will add and iterate as we go.

This meeting will cover:

  • General overview of CHAOSS
  • How you can begin contributing
  • How to get started with using the metrics
  • Q&A

We hope you can join to meet other newcomers and learn about CHAOSS! You can convert to your time zone here.

Upcoming Meetings

All calls use our CHAOSS community Zoom link: https://zoom.us/my/chaoss. All meetings are listed in the US Central Time (Chicago) timezone, currently on Daylight Savings Time.
