Weekly Newsletter (October 3-7, 2022)
Reminder: Please Share Feedback Through the CHAOSS Community Survey by October 12
Last week we announced that the CHAOSS Community Survey was open! We highly encourage everyone in the CHAOSS community to take this survey and share their thoughts and experiences with participating in the CHAOSS community.
From our blog post announcement:
A core value of CHAOSS is centering diversity, equity, and inclusion in everything we do. In order to make our community more welcoming and inclusive and continue to center DEI, we have been working with our DEI Audit team to develop a community survey. With this survey, we hope to increase our understanding of community members’ experiences within CHAOSS, and surface areas for improving our policies and practices.
Please feel free to read the full blog post for more details on the survey, and help us make our community more welcoming and inclusive for all!
You can find the survey here: https://chaossproject.limesurvey.net/835156?lang=en and it will be open until October 12.
Join Us for Hacktoberfest!
CHAOSS is participating once again in Hacktoberfest, a joint effort produced by Digital Ocean, appwrite, and Docker, which aims to help contributors find a project and make a contribution. We have tagged some issues with the label “Hacktoberfest” on some of our GitHub repos, so if you’re looking for something to work on, you can start there. For a full list of rules to participate in the Hacktoberfest program, please see the Hacktoberfest site. Good luck to all who are participating!
CHAOSScast Episode #66: Deciding What Metrics to Measure for Community Managers with Lori Goldman, Bri Leever and Victoria Cumberbatch
This episode features a discussion with three community architects and community management experts: Lori Goldman, Bri Leever, and Victoria Cumberbatch. They talk about how they all got started in community management, focusing on patterns over numbers, how numbers translate into behaviors, and how the data can be used to tell a story about your community. There are some fascinating insights in this one, and some great references to resources for future reading and learning. Highly recommend you check this out (especially if you’re a community manager!), and you can do so here: https://podcast.chaoss.community/66.
New In-Person Event for OSPOs
We wanted to pass along an event that may be of interest to many in the CHAOSS community: OSPOlogy.live in Stockholm, Sweden, October 19-20, 2022.
From the site:
Join the first in-person Workshop to help organizations effectively implement Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs) based on specific region needs in Europe. October’s Ospology.live is hosted by OSPO at Ericsson and co-organized with TODO, OpenChain, SPDX, CHAOSS and OpenSSF projects.
Dawn Foster, Sean Goggins, and Daniel Izquierdo will be giving a talk on CHAOSS and how OSPOs can use Metrics Models to learn about their communities.
To register or learn more about the event, visit the OSPOlogy.live site.
