Say Hello to the CHAOSS Welcome Slack Bot – A She Code Africa Project

Thanks to the amazing efforts of Precious Abubakar and Iyimide Adegunloye from the She Code Africa mentorship program, we have a new friend in the #newcomers Slack channel! This new friend is a welcome bot that will respond privately to anyone who types the word “newbie” in the channel. From there they can get answers to some of our common questions about getting started in the CHAOSS community. (Go ahead and try it out!)

What’s also great about this bot is that we can take this foundation and add information to it as the CHAOSS community grows and evolves. We are incredibly grateful to Precious and Mide and the wonderful work they’ve done to improve the onboarding experience for newcomers to the community. Congratulations on completing a very successful mentorship program! (And a big thank you to their mentors Ruth Ikegah, Matt Cantu Snell, and Elizabeth Barron).

Congratulations GSoC, GSoD and Outreachy Students!

Please help us welcome the mentees of the Google Summer of Code, Google Season of Docs, and Outreachy 2022 sessions who will be working with CHAOSS for the next few months! We received many excellent applications and because we received a limited number of slots from Google and Outreachy, we had to make some very difficult decisions. We greatly appreciate all who took the time to submit a proposal and we would love it if you decided to stay connected to CHAOSS as part of our community! ❤️

We welcome the following students:

We look forward to working with you all and seeing what we can accomplish together. Congratulations!
