OSS-NA Cancelled for 2021, OSS-EU Still On!
The Linux Foundation announced the cancellation of OSS-NA in August 2021, and instead are focusing their efforts on OSS-EU in Dublin September 28-October 1. The OSS-EU will have a global focus, and while CHAOSS’s participation is still TBD, they have opened the call for proposals here: https://events.linuxfoundation.org/open-source-summit-europe/program/cfp/.
CHAOSScast Episode 28: Human-centric Operations and Metrics with Sophia Vargas
The amazing Sophia Vargas from Google was our guest for the latest episode of CHAOSScast. Design Input for Presenting Metrics Needed
As our list of developed metrics grows, we are finding it increasingly challenging to present them in a cohesive and searchable way. We’d love input from those in the community who have ideas around ways we can present our metrics for a variety of users. If you are interested in joining this conversation, we will be discussing this at our next Web Content meeting on March 1, 2021 at 11:00 am Central (Chicago) (UTC -6) time. Find the time in your timezone here: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20210301T170000&p1=64. Please join us!
This Week’s Volunteer Opportunity
We are still looking to build out this team and are grateful for those who have stepped up to volunteer!
D&I Badging Initiative Reviewer (More than one volunteer needed!)
- Description of what’s needed: CHAOSS D&I Badging aims to foster healthier practices of Diversity & Inclusion in technology-centered events. We are looking for reviewers who care about this kind of work and want to make a difference in the tech event space. As a reviewer, your job is not to assess the Diversity & Inclusion statistics of an event. Your task is to help event organizers develop better practices for measuring Diversity & Inclusion in their own event spaces. (Training and a clear set of guidelines and criteria for awarding badges will be provided to volunteers.)All applications (so far) have been for virtual events, but the program will support in-person events as they begin to happen again. All the information you need for the review should be publicly available, such as on the website. You are encouraged to ask questions about the applicant event. Feel free to have a conversation with the applicant. We take the program’s impact seriously, but we hope the application can be a casual and enjoyable environment.
- Skills needed: The most important requirement for a reviewer is that you are committed to improving Diversity and Inclusion in the ways that you can. Otherwise, we require the applicant to understand basic GitHub functions, mostly regarding GitHub Issues.
It is strongly recommended that you are involved in some sort of open source contribution as well. (Training on the D&I Badging process will be given to volunteers). - Hours per week needed: Time commitment varies depending on your number of assigned reviews. Expect no more than an hour per week as a reviewer.
If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, reach out to Elizabeth (elizabeth@chaoss.community).
