No Meetings Next Week! 

Because CHAOSScon and OSSEU are happening next week, many of our community members will be busy and traveling, so we usually cancel meetings this week to give everyone a little break.

One point of note is that the Web Content group will meet on Thursday, September 8 at 8:00 am US Central Chicago time instead of meeting next week.

CHAOSS Africa Twitter Spaces Update

Our CHAOSS Africa community continues to grow and achieve great things! The Twitter Spaces held on August 18 was a huge success, with over 60 people attending. Topics discussed with the guest speakers were:

  • The barrier of access to resources for contribution (laptops, internet)
  • The lack of representation and African mentors in open source projects
  • The success of financial internships in Africa (Outreachy, GSoC)

We are absolutely thrilled to have hosted Maurice Hendriks from the City of Amsterdam to talk about Amsterdam’s Policy on Open Source. Maurice strives to use open source software to increase transparency into Government information and technology. Hosts Georg Link and Sean Goggins talk with Maurice about how open source affects the social systems of cities like Amsterdam, the difference between open source and open data, and how to include sustainability in open source for social good.
