New Working Group: Metrics Models
The idea of “metrics models,” or various ways to bring related atomic individual metrics together for different purposes, is an idea that has been floated around and discussed multiple times across multiple working groups and meetings. This will be especially important to the consumers of our metrics as our list of developed metrics continues to grow! Our App Ecosystem Working Group also discusses these ideas, and the CHAOSS community is finally ready to pursue this as its own working group. You are encouraged to participate!
The first meeting of our new Metrics Model Working Group will be Tuesday, August 17 at 6:00 pm US Central/Chicago time. (We realize this time is inconvenient for our European Community, so we encourage you to bring your thoughts to the next App Ecosystem Group meeting on August 23 at 12:00 pm US Central/Chicago time.)

Office Hours Moving to Bi-Weekly Schedule
We decided at the Community Meeting to change the Zoom Office Hours for newcomers to a bi-weekly schedule. The next Office Hours will be August 23, 2021, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am US Central/Chicago time.

CHAOSScast Episode 41: Forecasting Sustainability with Vladimir Filkov and Likang Yin
In this latest episode of CHAOSScast, we were so fortunate to host Vladimir Filkov and Likang Yin of the University of California-Davis and chat about their research in open source communities and attempting to forecast their sustainability. Vladimir and Likang were joined by host Georg Link, and panelists Sean Goggins and Sophia Vargas, and they discussed not only the research itself, but the motivations behind the project, the challenges they overcame, socio-technical systems, and predictability models. Community Handbook Featured at GitLab’s Commit Conference
Huge thank you to Jaskirat Singh and Nuritizi Sanchez for representing our amazing Community Handbook at GitLab’s Commit Conference this year. Although it has been a community effort, the handbook came together largely because of Jaskirat’s efforts as one of our GSoC students last year. We are proud that it can now be used as an example for other open source projects to draw upon for inspiration! The title of their talk was “Community Handbook Best Practices for Diversity and Inclusion,” and you can see it in its entirety on YouTube.
