Evolution WG Shifting Weeks, Same Time of Day
To accommodate the schedules of some core members of the Evolution Working Group, and to increase participation in the meetings, we are shifting the weeks that this group meets. The group will NOT meet this week but will meet next week at the usual time (March 3, 2021, 9:00 am US Central-Chicago, UTC -6). The Linux Foundation announced the cancellation of OSS-NA in August 2021, and instead are focusing their efforts on OSS-EU in Dublin September 28-October 1. The OSS-EU will have a global focus, and while CHAOSS’s participation is still TBD, they have opened the call for proposals here: https://events.linuxfoundation.org/open-source-summit-europe/program/cfp/.

Last week we announced our first virtual Augur Hackathon, happening on Saturday, February 13. We hope you can join us as we work through some issues together as a team! We are happy to have hosted our two Google Season of Docs students, Xiaoya and Jaskirat, on the latest episode of CHAOSScast. Based on the most common time available for the Risk WG community, we have moved these meetings to Thursdays at 2:00 pm Central (Chicago) time. We are heavily invested in talking about dependencies, but that’s not all the group discusses. The group will continue to develop metrics related to software risk in a variety of focus areas. Last week was the last week for working groups to develop metrics to be included in the upcoming metrics release (March 2021). There will be a 30-day community review period for all metrics before the official release happens. During the last meeting of the Value Working Group, a new focus area was proposed that would develop metrics around the value of open source in an academic setting. We know there are a lot of people interested in this discussion and the role of OSPOs in academia, and if you would like to participate in these conversations, the Value Working Group is meeting this week (see below for details). One of the things that we are exploring in the CHAOSS project is how our open source community health efforts can prove useful in Scientific Software communities. Sean and I had a chance to present our work at the [Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Essential Open Source Software for Science](https://chanzuckerberg.com/eoss/) meeting on December 9th, 2020.
In the D&I Working Group, we worked on the Chat Platform Inclusivity metric and began exploring data collection on different chat platforms. To create an implementation for collecting data from chat platforms, we had a number of considerations.
