New Metrics from DEI Working Group

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group published two new metrics this week:

  • Event Location Inclusivity (Is the event located in a region where governments, cultural contexts, or society may cause harm to the physical safety and/or psychological safety of event attendees?)
  • Public Health and Safety (To what extent does your event address public health through policies around masks, vaccines, COVID testing, and in infrastructure such as ventilation and air purification in indoor venues?)

These metrics, along with Event Accessibility, will be added to the DEI Event Badging Application for open source events. Thanks to all who worked on these metrics!

Registration is open for CHAOSScon NA 2023!

We have a confirmed date for CHAOSScon NA 2023! Hooray!

We will be hosting a session in the afternoon of May 9, 2023 in conjunction with Open Source Summit North America in Vancouver BC, Canada.

Registration is $20 USD and registration for OSSNA is a pre-requisite. You can register for both events on the OSSNA registration page. Sponsorship is also available, so if you’re interested in sponsoring, feel free to reach out.

The schedule is coming soon, so stay tuned for details. Hope to see you there!

New Working Groups in the Works

As you may know, CHAOSS recently pivoted the Value Working Group to partner with the TODO group to focus on OSPOs and their needs and concerns with measuring their projects’ community health. This has been very successful and there are a lot of great conversations happening in those meetings.

In the same spirit, we wanted to let you all know about new groups that are currently forming:

  • OSPO++  Working Group for OSPOs in Universities and Government
  • Community Managers
  • Event Organizers

As CHAOSS continues to grow and build partnerships with other organizations, there may be more of these groups popping up. Be sure to keep up with conversations in our Community Meeting, our Slack channels, and our Discourse if you’d like to be involved with these groups.

Next Onboarding Session for New Chaotics – Rescheduled for March 8

The next onboarding session for new chaotics, hosted by  Elizabeth Barron (CHAOSS Community Manager) and Ruth Ikegah (CHAOSS Africa Community Lead) has been rescheduled to March 8, 2023 at 11:00 am US Central/Chicago time. We know this time is not convenient for everyone, but this is just a start and we will add and iterate as we go.

This meeting will cover:

  • General overview of CHAOSS
  • How you can begin contributing
  • How to get started with using the metrics
  • Q&A

We hope you can join to meet other newcomers and learn about CHAOSS! You can convert to your time zone here.
