Daylight Savings Time Nonsense is Upon Us Again
Twice a year we go through a period of flux where different countries are changing clocks for Daylight Savings, and some don’t change their clocks at all. This is a reminder that CHAOSS meetings generally align with the US Central/Chicago Time Zone. The only exception is the CHAOSS Africa Community Meeting, which aligns with WAT. The US will be moving our clocks back an hour over the upcoming weekend. As a result, depending on where you live, CHAOSS meeting times may have changed starting next week.
If you copied any of the meetings over to your personal calendar, they may be out of sync. Your best bet is to (starting next week) double-check the CHAOSS calendar for meetings you usually attend.

CHAOSScon EU 2024 Registration Open and Schedule Released
We are thrilled to be announcing the next CHAOSScon! The next will be held on February 1, 2024 in Brussels, Belgium (2 days before FOSDEM). We have announced the first draft of our Schedule and you can now register for the event! Registration is $10USD but we do offer Diversity Access Tickets, so please don’t hesitate to inquire about those. CHAOSS Africa Partners with OSCA in Lome, Togo
In celebration of Open Source Day, CHAOSS Africa teamed up with OSCA in the Lome chapter in Togo to encourage open source participation and educate folks about what it means to be part of an open source community. The event was a huge success and everyone seemed to have an amazing time! Thanks to all those who took part in the day – it was great meeting you, and a huge welcome to those who became CHAOTICs!
New CHAOSScast Episode Released: #73 – Reflections on the LF OSS Maintainer Report
This week we released our 73rd episode of CHAOSScast! In this episode, our hosts Dawn Foster, Georg Link, and Sophia Vargas are joined by Alyssa Wright and Anita Ihuman. They share an in-depth discussion and analysis of the methods used in the report and what the data represents. They also talk about areas that could use further research. CHAOSS Onboarding Courses – Volunteers Needed
CHAOSS is building out its Onboarding courses and is looking for volunteers who would like to help with this project! We are looking for a variety of contributions, and newcomers are absolutely welcome to help! There is no one better suited to helping build out this project than those who its meant for. We highly encourage you to help us review content and identify any gaps we might be missing. If you’re interested in helping with this, we ask that you complete this interest form. You can also join these conversations in the #education channel on Slack. Please join us!
Changes to Augur Community Meetings
We are ramping up our Augur Community Meetings! They will now be held weekly, with alternating times to accommodate those in various time zones. The Augur team meets every Thursday at 7:00 am US Central or 4:00 pm US Central. (Don’t forget the time change this weekend — that time may convert differently where you are.)
Holiday/End of Year Break
Every year, CHAOSS makes it a priority to take a break from meetings and metrics work. Burnout is a real thing, and we’d like to keep our community members from feeling burned out in any way. One of the ways we do this is through this yearly break.
All CHAOSS meetings are canceled from December 11, 2023-January 8, 2024.
We hope you all enjoy the break and that we all come back in January feeling refreshed and inspired!
