All In + CHAOSS DEI Project Badging Pilot Launched

As many of you know, CHAOSS and the All In project have been working together to implement a DEI Project badging initiative, as well as the inclusion of a DEI.md file in a project’s repository to signal the project’s attention to 4 CHAOSS DEI Metrics:

This project is now open as a pilot, and we would love to include open source projects who are interested in helping us test and build this initiative out. We are also looking for more folks to join the DEI working group where metrics and future levels will be built. For more information, you can watch the recording of our Panel Discussion from Maintainer Month or visit the All In website.

DEI Event Badging Meeting Combined with DEI Working Group Meeting

We decided this week to combine the DEI Event Badging meeting with the DEI Working Group Meeting for a few reasons:

  • DEI Badging meeting is Lightly attended
  • Lots of overlap with DEI WG agenda items
  • New folks helping with badging would be directed to DEI WG anyway
  • One less meeting, hooray!

Similar to what we do when it’s time for CHAOSScon planning, we will take the last 20 minutes of the DEI Working Group and dedicate it to anything related to DEI Project or Event Badging. As a reminder, these meetings happen every week on Wednesdays, at 10:00 am US Central/Chicago time.

Renaming “Office Hours” to “Newcomer Hangout”

We recently renamed our weekly “Office Hours” to “Newcomer Hangout” to better reflect the purpose of the meeting. This is an informal meeting with no agenda, and newcomers are welcome to join to ask questions about CHAOSS and get to know other newcomers in our community. If you’ve been around the community a while and want to also join to help answer questions or connect with our newcomers, that would be awesome as well. These meetings happen every Tuesday at 9:00 am US Central/Chicago time.

CHAOSS Meeting Summaries on Discourse

In order to make it easier to surface conversations that happen during meetings, to improve discoverability and transparency, and also to include others who were not able to make our meetings, we are going to post weekly high-level recaps of our meetings. This week’s meetings included:

You can subscribe to the #meeting-recap tag or the Meeting Summaries category to be notified of new meeting summaries. Feel free to continue async conversations there or in Slack. We hope these summaries are useful! Let us know how we can improve them.
