Evolution WG Shifting Weeks, Same Time of Day

To accommodate the schedules of some core members of the Evolution Working Group, and to increase participation in the meetings, we are shifting the weeks that this group meets. The group will NOT meet this week but will meet next week at the usual time (March 3, 2021,  9:00 am US Central-Chicago, UTC -6). You can check for the time in your timezone here:

Last Week for Metrics Review

Our March release is coming up in, well, March! So that means that this will be the last week to get your comments in during our public review period. You can see all 16 metrics under review for release here: We really appreciate your comments, and for those who have already provided some valuable feedback, we appreciate you x10. Thank you!!

Don’t Forget Open Source Summit and Embedded Linux Conference 2021 CfP

Happening September 28-October 1 in Dublin, Ireland, the OSS-EU conference is happening jointly with the Embedded Linux Conference in lieu of the OSS-NA conference which has been canceled. This conference is accepting talks on a wide variety of topics, which you can see here: You have nothing to lose, so why not give it a shot? We would love to see our CHAOSS community spreading their knowledge far and wide! (Also, Dublin’s amazing).

This Week’s Volunteer Opportunity -D&I Badging Reviewers (Still Looking!)

We are still looking to build out this team and are grateful for those who have stepped up to volunteer!

D&I Badging Initiative Reviewer (More than one volunteer needed!)

  • Description of what’s needed: CHAOSS D&I Badging aims to foster healthier practices of Diversity & Inclusion in technology-centered events. We are looking for reviewers who care about this kind of work and want to make a difference in the tech event space. As a reviewer, your job is not to assess the Diversity & Inclusion statistics of an event. Your task is to help event organizers develop better practices for measuring Diversity & Inclusion in their own event spaces. (Training and a clear set of guidelines and criteria for awarding badges will be provided to volunteers.)All applications (so far) have been for virtual events, but the program will support in-person events as they begin to happen again. All the information you need for the review should be publicly available, such as on the website. You are encouraged to ask questions about the applicant event. Feel free to have a conversation with the applicant. We take the program’s impact seriously, but we hope the application can be a casual and enjoyable environment.
  • Skills needed: The most important requirement for a reviewer is that you are committed to improving Diversity and Inclusion in the ways that you can. Otherwise, we require the applicant to understand basic GitHub functions, mostly regarding GitHub Issues.
It is strongly recommended that you are involved in some sort of open source contribution as well. (Training on the D&I Badging process will be given to volunteers).
  • Hours per week needed: Time commitment varies depending on your number of assigned reviews. Expect no more than an hour per week as a reviewer.
