For those who aren’t familiar with the event, Hacktoberfest is a month-long initiative to encourage open source participation from new contributors. It’s sponsored by Digital Ocean and Major League Hacking, and it includes open source events, swag, and recognition for open source contributions.
CHAOSS is participating in a few ways this year.
From Zero to 100 Technical Writing Workshop
Our CHAOSS Africa Technical Writing group is hosting a 3 hour workshop on technical documentation and how writers can get involved in open source. It will happen on October 18 from 2:00-5:00 pm UTC, and you can register for the event here. You can also read more about the event in the CHAOSS Africa Repo.
X Space on Design and Open Source
On October 17, 2025 the CHAOSS Africa X account will be hosting an X Space on Open Source and Design. We encourage anyone interested in learning about the overlap of these two areas to join the Space! You should follow the CHAOSS Africa X account or the #hacktoberfest-2025 Slack Channel for up-to-date information.
